OIRC Club projects
1) OIRC SYLHET AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Objective: Secure underprivileged youths an education who thereby get a better life and also contribute to their local community
Update by October 2023:
- The Bachelor students are thriving and we have established a regular meeting sequence with the students and their supervisors/professors every month.
- Our four Mastergrad students are also performing well and we are grateful to Skaugum RC who sponsor one of these successfully. Read about Tarin Tabaschum's achievement on our new project website.
Update by May 2023:
- New batch evaluated and proposed by Syed and his team
- The increase from 6 to 10 students was up for voting and reached a quorum on the 12th of May 2023
- All the new Bachelor students have been informed and communication channels via email and WhatsApp are established
- OIRC has developed a Sponsorship Agreement for external supporters. If you like to sponsor one or more students at Sylhet or want to know more, please email directly to oircpresident@gmail.com or download our cooperation options here.
2) OIH/OIRC MENTOR & NETWORKING PROGRAM FOR TALENTED IMMIGRANTS IN OSLO
Objective: Enabling (young) talented expats to thrive and to be an asset in the Norwegian Professional work force and thus growing mutual understanding between cultures and adding quality and attractivity to Norwegian businesses.
Update by May 2023:
- Project period over, all the Mentees recieved a diploma for fullfilled program
- Three out of 14 have got a job within 3 months, we are still looking to aid the others and keep in touch
- Application for a new Mentoring Program Period is sent in cooperation with Oslo international Hub (OIH), result in June -23
- Combining three Mentoring Programs; Young talents for work, Entrepreneurships & Refugees
- Restructure Program & Process = Creating arenas for bigger networks and collaboration etc.
3) RYE, RYLA & ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Objective: Enabling young people on their quest to grow understanding, knowledge and leadership skills which again will result in their contribution to show tolerance and respect, yes, even peace
Update by February 2023:
A) Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE):
- Youths at High School level. This is the first time with RYE and decided to cooperate with Oslo Rotary Club. One Norwegian student – Solveig Kvarsvik is the Oslo rep to US and reports back that she enjoys herself very much. On the counterpart, we have Clover McKee from Canada staying in Oslo this Rotary year. This has been a lovely experience so far, to be continued 2023-2024 in cooperation with Oslo RK.
- Clover will leave in July, parents will visit before her departure
- Farewell-thing for Clover together with ORK: 21 June 2023
- 2023 – 2024: A Norwegian candidate with Tunisian origin is ready for an exchange year if the District/RYE Team can find host families (her preference is Australia – they have RYE starting January each year unlike us who start in August) This time OIRC is the signing entity as support club for the Norwegian candidate.
B) Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) D2310
- Date: 5 - 7 April 2024
- Place: Lily Country Club
- Main topics: Mental Health, Conflict Management and Communication

C) ROTARY GLOBAL GRANT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:
- Fuka Iwase from Japan who studied at the Peace Centre was the first student from this program to be hosted by OIRC. She is now back in Japan and doing well
- Lindsey Scott is our current Sholarship student, she is from Canada and currently studying BioScience at Oslo University. She will stay till summer 2024 and has been a great asset to our club already
- This program will be supported by OIRC as a hosting club also in the future. Siri is part of the Global Grant Scholarship Program Committee together with Per O. Aukner and Svein Eystein Lindberg. Lindsey’s Rotary supporting club from Canada is the Rotary Club of Calgary Olympic with Global Grant Scholarship Committee Chair Hendrik Kraay
- Rotary Summer Camps are organised in various countries around the world every year
- 12 youths from age of 17 - 20 are invited to attend a 9 days tour in D2310 from 31 July - 9 August 2023, Buskerud & Oslo

4) OIRC DISASTER FUND
The board has decided to have a certain percentage of our funds to be allocated to world crisis/disaster every year. We will decide from case to case whether the funds go directly to a project, local Rotary Club or Rotary International disaster fund. In December 2022, we donated NOK 19 000 to the Shelter Project of Kyiv International RC directly.
